Directive to Clubs Hosting ISC Events with International Course Designers
Clubs retaining the design services of an international judge to design AKC ISC courses are required to adhere to the following policies, effective for unsubmitted courses August 4th, 2025. Clubs must obtain approval from the Director for any non-ISC course design created by a non-AKC judge. Approval will be granted only in exceptional circumstances, such as Special Events featuring a majority of ISC classes.
1. Three-Strike Policy for Late Submissions:
- All designers submitting courses to the AKC ISC program must do so at least 45 days prior to the trial date.
- A designer who submits their courses late three (3) times in total to the ISC program will be suspended from designing for the program overall.
- This policy applies program-wide and is not limited to a specific club.
2. Club Accountability for Late or Improper Submissions:
- Clubs are solely responsible for ensuring that the designer they retain complies with all AKC submission deadlines and requirements.
- Late submission of a set of courses by the designer will result in a fine to the club retaining their design services.
- Repeated or significant failure to comply with AKC ISC design criteria will result in the revocation of the designer’s privileges to design for the program.
- Clubs should verify submission deadlines early and maintain regular communication with the designer they retain to ensure compliance.
3. Distribution of Course Design Requirements:
- Clubs must provide the following document to the designer they retain to design ISC courses:
- Designers are required to follow the specifications in this guide. These include, but are not limited to:
- Correct course formatting in SmarterAgility (e.g., map alignment, grid size, units in feet).
- Mandatory inclusion of detailed course metadata (title, location, date, judge name, club name).
- Required submission of a premium list with the course files.
- Proper file format (.txt or editable SmarterAgility link only).
- Proper identifying information on submission email.
- Submissions made directly to AKC Field Representative Zachary Davis, not the hiring club or any other individuals.
Failure to follow these standards will result in club fines and/or suspension of design privileges on the part of the designer. The above requirements become mandatory for all (unsubmitted) courses beginning August 4th, 2025; clubs and designers are strongly encouraged to begin following them immediately.
Thank you for your cooperation in supporting the continued growth and integrity of the AKC ISC program!
